https://archive.org/details/InternationalFolkDances   }This is a collection of music for folk dancing that has long been out of print. Most of it consists of 78RPM transcriptions. Many of the vinyl recordings are actually transcribed from older 78s. From the soulful Macedonian, happy-happy Croatian, to the furious Russian-Ukranian melodies this music makes wonderful listening, but most importantly it demands to be danced. The 78RPM recordings often have a vigor and life unsurpassed by modern recordings. This is because they could not edit them, and so they had to record them in a complete take. This helped give the music an edge because the musicians were under pressure similat to that in a live performance.
http://dingo.sbs.arizona.edu/~carnie/folkdance/folkdance.html   }”For a number of years I’ve been trying to index all the folkdance notes I could find on the web. The number of such notes has exploded, so this has turned into a massive and overwhelming task. It’s also been rendered obsolete by good search engines, so I’ve decided to give up the indexing function for a while and concentrate on writing up my own notes. If you would like to see the old indices you can click here, but be warned they are very out of date and I won’t be updating them. http://www.streetswing.com/histmain/z3moris.htm   }The Morris dance (Tripudium Mauritanicum) was the most frequently mentioned of all the dances of the fifteenth century. In Renaissance writings it is almost always mentioned that a Mouresca, Morisque or Moresque (Arab Lambra,) or Morisco was danced and was said to be brought to England from Spain by John of Gaunt (1340-1389) brother of Edward, ‘the Black Prince’ during the reign of his father, Edward III (1312-1377) around 1360 AD. In the beginning, the Morris dance was a pantomime of war, depicting the struggle of the Moors and Christianity and is one of the oldest English dances to date. However, it’s origin is not considered strictly English, but the modern version is.

http://www.humankindness.org/   } HKF’s Prison-Ashram Project sends free books to inmates all over the world. Books are about interfaith spirituality, and most of our materials were written by the late Bo Lozoff. The Human Kindness Foundation, founded by Bo and Sita Lozoff, is a non-profit organization which stresses a way of life based upon three common principles taught by the great sages of all religions: Simple living, a dedication to service, and a commitment to personal spiritual practice. See FAQs below.
http://www.humankindness.org/prison-ashram-project/   } The primary purpose of the Prison-Ashram Project is to inspire and encourage prisoners and prison staff to recognize their depth as human beings, and to behave accordingly. Our inmost nature is divine. The nature of our lives is an incomprehensibly wonderful mystery which each human being can experience for themselves. Prisoners have the opportunity to dedicate themselves to this inward journey without the distractions and luxuries which occupy many people in the “free world.” Yes, Bo Lozoff was in prison, too.
http://humankindness.bigcartel.com/product/we-re-all-doing-time   }Bo Lozoff’s most famous book. You will find this book in jails and prisons, if you live in them for a while. “”This practical manual will inspire everyone who is as concerned with helping others as with their own personal improvement.” — from the Foreword by His Holiness, The Dalai Lama. Bo Lozoff’s first book, WE’RE ALL DOING TIME has met with phenomenal acclaim around the world since its first printing in 1985. Few books have crossed religious, ethnic, cultural and economic lines with such a clear and simple, immediately useful expression of ageless spiritual truths. The English-language edition is now in its eighteenth printing. “

http://insightprisonproject.org/   }why is this on the peaceniks List? Well, the path of peace means helping parolees to move back into Society, and helping inmates and prisoners to prepare to. There is still huge stigma attached to serving out one’s debt to society, and people come out with no homes, no jobs, no family, and no friends. So… this project helps them to get back into society, and not to go back in to prison (that’s what they call recidivism). Highly Recommended. “Insight Prison Project transforms the lives of those impacted by incarceration through programs designed to develop behavior inspired by insight, accountability and compassion.”

http://www.mbaproject.org/about-us/history-2/   }The Mind Body Awareness Project was founded in June of 2000 by Noah Levine and a group of his close friends. n 2006, the MBA Project merged with its sister non-profit, Youth Horizons, founded by Andrew Getz and Soren Gordhammer (who later moved to NYC and founded the Lineage Project there). In 2007 MBA merged with Vision Youthz, founded by Dr. Kyra Bobinet. Vision Youthz was largely an aftercare program, providing continuity-of-care to youth in San Francisco post-release. http://prisonmindfulness.org/   }Fleet Maul founded this. In 1985, Fleet Maull was incarcerated on drug charges. Prior to his incarceration, Fleet received extensive training as a meditation instructor under the guidance of Tibetan meditation master Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Shortly after arriving at the federal medical center, he started a Buddhist meditation group in the prison chapel which he led for 14 years, training hundreds of prisoners in contemplative spirituality and the practice of mindfulness-awareness meditation. In the early 1980s, Buddhist prison ministry was all but nonexistent. Many Buddhist centers were beginning to receive letters of interest from prisons, and a number of these centers began forwarding these letters to Fleet. He quickly realized the he couldn’t begin to keep up with the growing demand for Buddhist prisoner support that was coming his way, and in 1989 founded Prison Dharma Network (PDN), a national nonprofit, nonsectarian support network for Buddhist prisoners, volunteers and prison staff.

http://www.everythingandnothingproject.com/p/everything-and-nothing-source-materials.html   }Jorge Luis Borges was an Argentinian writer, essayist, poet and translator. He was tremendously influential, writing intricate poems, short stories, and essays that instantiated concepts of dizzying power. His work embraced the “character of unreality in all literature.” The essay collection Borges y la Matemática by Guillermo Martínez outlines how Borges used concepts from mathematics in his work. Other books such as The Unimaginable Mathematics of Borges’ Library of Babel by William Goldbloom Bloch, and Unthinking Thinking: Jorge Luis Borges, Mathematics, and the New Physics by Floyd Merrell also explore this relationship. Some of his short stories, from which we have drawn inspiration in this project, are reproduced below – The Library of Babel, On Exactitude in Science, and The Aleph.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnA8GUtXpXY&feature=em-subs_digest-vrecs   }We have been brought up to believe that the mind is located inside the head. But there are good reasons for thinking that this view is too limited. Recent experimental results show that people can influence others at a distance just by looking at them, even if they look from behind and if all sensory clues are eliminated. And people’s intentions can be detected by animals from miles away. The commonest kind of non-local interaction mental influence occurs in connection with telephone calls, where most people have had the experience of thinking of someone shortly before they ring. Controlled, randomized tests on telephone telepathy have given highly significant positive results. Research techniques have now been automated and experiments on telepathy are now being conducted through the internet and cell phones, enabling widespread participation.

FAQs

1. Q: Is “InterNet” really an acronym?
A: Yes, it “really” is. Stands for “Interconnected Networks”, and always has.

2. Q: I’ve heard it said, that the Sun neither lights nor heats. Is this true?
A: Yes, it is.

3. Q: Are orbs and vortices real?
A: Obviously yes, they’re quite real, but some of the websites and physical sites are hoaxes and tourist-traps only. We have witnessed both orbs and vortices personally.

4. Q: Do you put Laurie Anderson under “Music” or “Poetry” ?
A: Under both. Some artists fit under more than one heading.

5. Q: What’s a “Sufi tag” ?
A: Look at the website and see one. Note: terms like “tag” and “graff”
are used interchangeably by such artists. Furthermore various media or techniques are routinely mixed, such as stencils, paint, stickers, spray, and so forth.

6. Q: Who is “The J-man” ?
A: The J-man is one of a series of notable individuals employing similar nicknames,
as follows: The G-man : G. Gordon Liddy
The I-man : Don Imus.
The J-man : Author of this document. (Along with Dr. Jone Dae.)
The K-man : Krishnamurti.

7. Q: What are your favorite Kate Bush selections?
A: Album: Sensuous World; Cut: Cloudbusting. Also good: Ninth Wave.

8. Q: What does Mr. Kamel have against Ken Wilbur?
A: See e.g., www.kheper.net/topics/gurus/Three_Cards_Trick.html , and others. Sorry, but we do not approve of Mr. Wilbur.

9. Q: Why do some multimedia files sound like mice when speaking or singing?
A: This, even Mr. Kamel doesn’t know. We here in America use the world’s most advanced digital technology, and he feels that people should sound like people, rather than mice.

10. Q: Who are Derek & Clive?
A: Well, they’re both dead now, but they were Peter Cook and Dudley Moore.

11. Q: About the folkdance clubs… would a Central Coast or Central California club, be on the southern list or the northern list?
A: Depends on which list you’re looking at. Some Californians still don’t realize that there is a Central California, and a Central Coast, and that these areas are neither north nor south, but a blend of the two. Example: San Simeon already looks like Santa Cruz, north of it, and Santa Barbara already looks like L.A., and Ventura, south of it, is basically already part of L.A. But San Luis Obispo, in the middle, looks only like itself, and there is not other place that has, e.g., redwood, pine, palm, oak, and fig trees all in one place at the same time.

12. Q: Are there any other websites, or videos, that are, you know, about the aliens and E.T. and, like, the Visitors?
A: Unfortunately, there are tons of them. Most of the videos, and I mean a sad 99%, are just optical illusions, hoaxes, high-tech forgeries, and videos of various kinds of space debris and atmospheric flotsam and jetsam, and so on. One of our facebook friends regularly sends us new videos of this sort of thing, and the audio is grim, space opera overblown electronic music, with ridiculous narrations, if any, and so on.

13. Q: That’s so surrealistic.
A: Surrealism began primarily as a literary movement based on radical ideas gaining momentum in the 1920s. Naturally, where words flow, images swim congruently, and it is perhaps for the many paintings and ‘graphic works’ associated with the movement that Surrealism has received much of its notoriety. However, judge the basis of Surrealism not by what has been and yet remains to be written about the movement, but by what has been done and yet remains to be accomplished using the mechanisms inherent in the Vice of Surrealism.

14. Q: I heard that Bo Lozoff died recently. Is that true?
A: Very sad. Yes, it is true; and he was a Saint. Some quotations: “Bo’s first book, We’re All Doing Time, with over 400,000 copies in print, was hailed by The Village Voice as “one of the ten books everyone in the world should read,” and is acclaimed by prison staff and prisoners alike as one of the most helpful books ever written for true self-improvement and rehabilitation.” “Beloved founder and author Bo Lozoff died November 29, 2012, in a motorcycle accident. The Human Kindness Foundation continues to distribute his books and CDs.” http://www.humankindness.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/Xmas2012announce.jpg   }see this image.
